This track began with a traditional West African rhythm that Arnulfo Mancera and his brother Andres recorded with Keli Marks at Septima Studios. Roots To Circuits refers in part to how traditional rhythms translate for bass heavy dance floors, and it was during the creation of this song that the album name first came to me. The drums were fed through a vocoder, then mashed up with a heavy cumbia beat, a dirty dirty baseline, and a spoken word piece co-written with Ana Quintanilla. Ana and I further explored the theme of the poem visually in Oakland with a wheat pasted street art piece of a figure with 4 different faces merging into each other.
