about

Originally composed as a five piece film score for an animated version of the Ramayana (Hindu folk tale of the battle between Rama, an incarnation of God, and a demon king), it then merged with field recordings taken in Oakland and San Francisco in the midst of confrontations between the Occupy movement and police, to form a warrior anthem. The spoken word piece is inspired by the Mexican Huapanga tradition, which intersperses poetry and consciousness into all night dance music. In huapanga, its not uncommon for one band (often older ladies and gentlemen, at that) to play for 8 hours or more, feeding themselves on the music (and cactus fruit liquor…), warriors in their own right.

That heavy synth, once again, is the sound of off-the-grid generators.

lyrics

Breathe deep with me all my family
This is the moment for each one to lead
Coconut wireless, collective consciousness
Love's constant climax is why we exist

Love is the force that gave each of us our lives
Looking around all I see are allies
What was underground is now bubbling up
its the crude truth they can't keep on barreling up

Miss Emma Goldman dontcha worry bout we
Our revolution got dancing feet
Bust a new move pon an ancient beat
Evolve as our world revolves at greater speed

Ancestors and generations to come
Speak through the drum, as we facing up to the gun
Power comes through us as we realize
We're warriors born at the turn of the tide

Wake with my doubt and learn to shake it out
Jumping from waterfalls faith in the falling y'all
Lookin at our world with truth in our eyes
Dance while we fight and we laugh while we cry

Miss Emma Goldman dontcha worry bout we
Our revolution got dancing feet
Bust a new move pon an ancient beat
Evolve as our world revolves at greater speed

occupy was our society's awkward first stage of puberty
for society to reach maturity
seems a revolution is necessary

And the time is up soon, fact time is now
Systems are crumbling we're breaking them down
Mushroom in my mind is here to remind me
of work to be done, battle songs to be sung
Fighting mentalities with the logic of love

Miss Emma Goldman dontcha worry bout we
Our revolution got dancing feet
Bust a new move pon an ancient beat
Evolve as our world revolves at greater speed
