s the dry season in Guanajuato, MX stretched on one summer, I began asking friends to record rain prayers. Those prayers became this song. My plans to go from Mexico to Cuba were interrupted two weeks before the planned departure by a broken wrist, and I learned I needed to return to the US for surgery. However, I stayed long enough for us to put together a harvest festival at the Hacienda at Septima Studios. Kids from the pueblo, artists from the city, grandparents, campesinos, bourgeois, rich gringos, for one night everyone was at the same party. We held a brief rain prayer ceremony with this song and an offering of the early harvest, and danced till the morning. That same morning, heading up to mexico city to fly to NY, I found myself crying, and those tears were kept company by the rain falling from the sky, the first rain of the year.
